The Quality Co-op will work directly as a member of the RPU product development and operations team, supporting investigation and resolution of issues observed on deployed electromechanical systems. This role is centered on understanding real-world system behavior through software log analysis, camera/video review, hardware and mechanical understanding, and cross-functional troubleshooting. The co-op will collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and field teams to document findings, identify root causes, and improve system reliability. In addition to investigations, the co-op will help develop tools, processes, and automations that improve the speed, consistency, and effectiveness of field issue triage and quality response.
This role will be onsite at the Bedford, MA office. This position will run from approximately July to December 2026 (dates flexible).
Functions
- Investigate field and internal system issues using software logs, camera/video review, sensor data, and hardware observations.
- Build clear timelines and technical summaries of system behavior to support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Document investigations in a structured, reusable way, including evidence, conclusions, and recommended next steps.
- Work across mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and field teams to ask targeted questions and close information gaps during investigations.
- Develop and improve tools, scripts, and processes that accelerate issue triage, data collection, and analysis.
- Support creation and ownership of automated monitoring, alerting, or reporting workflows for deployed systems.
- Analyze recurring failure modes and trends to help prioritize quality and reliability improvements.
- Assist with validation and verification activities when needed to reproduce issues and confirm fixes.
- Contribute to quality documentation including investigation reports, troubleshooting guides, test procedures, and standard work.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to issue response, field support workflows, and deployed system reliability.
Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in debugging complex systems with incomplete information.
- Interest in failure analysis, quality engineering, system troubleshooting, or robotics/electromechanical systems.
- Ability to interpret logs, system behavior, test results, and hardware observations together to form clear technical conclusions.
- Comfortable reviewing camera/video data and correlating it with system events and timestamps.
- Basic understanding of electromechanical systems, sensors, actuators, and common hardware/software failure modes.
- Experience with data analysis or scripting tools such as Python, Excel, or similar.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and ask effective technical questions.
- Detail-oriented, curious, and proactive in pursuing root cause
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a hands-on engineering environment.
