Headquartered in Singapore, Advance Intelligence Group is one of the largest independent financial services-focussed technology startups in Asia.Job Description
Position Summary
We’re seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for Crypto & Digital Assets to support the development and execution of the Group’s digital assets and crypto initiatives. Based in Hong Kong, this is a senior individual contributor role within AIX, reporting directly to a C-suite executive.
This role provides legal leadership across regulatory strategy, licensing, product structuring, and market entry for digital asset–related activities. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, Risk, Technology, and Product to design compliant, scalable frameworks that support the responsible evolution of the Group’s digital assets initiatives.
A core focus of the role is ensuring that digital asset activities are structured and sequenced in a manner aligned with broader Group strategy, governance standards, and risk appetite, taking into account multiple underlying business units and regulatory perimeters. The role requires strong judgement and the ability to balance innovation with disciplined regulatory architecture.
The position is suited to an experienced crypto lawyer who is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy, advising at senior levels, engaging regulators and external counsel directly, and translating evolving regulatory requirements into practical, executable solutions. While this role does not initially include people management responsibilities, there may be scope to build and lead a team if the business expands.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Strategy & Advisory
- Provide senior legal advice on crypto and digital asset regulatory frameworks, including licensing, registration, and ongoing compliance obligations
- Support the evaluation and execution of licensing and regulatory engagement strategies across Hong Kong and selected international financial centres, including emerging digital asset hubs
- Advise on the structuring of primary and secondary licensing models for digital asset activities, enabling scalable market entry as regulatory frameworks develop
- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments across key crypto markets, assessing impact and advising senior management on strategic positioning
- Engage with regulators, industry bodies, and external counsel on digital asset–related matters
Product & Platform Enablement
- Advise on the legal structuring of crypto, blockchain, and digital asset–related products and services, including custody, payments, and on-/off-ramp models
- Support the use of third-party service providers, including legal analysis of outsourcing, delegation, and risk allocation arrangements
- Partner closely with Compliance, Risk, and Product teams to ensure regulatory expectations are embedded into platform design and operations
- Support cross-border initiatives and market-entry considerations, including jurisdictions where regulatory frameworks are evolving
Group Alignment & Regulatory Structuring (Digital Assets)
- Ensure digital asset initiatives are structured in a manner consistent with overall Group strategy, governance standards, and risk appetite
- Advise on regulatory and legal structuring options, including appropriate entity-level ring-fencing and use of third-party providers, to enable innovation while protecting the Group from unintended regulatory exposure or contagion risk
- Work closely with Group Legal, Compliance, and senior business leaders to sequence activities appropriately across entities and jurisdictions
- Identify and manage cross-business regulatory dependencies and risks, ensuring issues are addressed proactively rather than reactively
Governance & Risk Management
- Develop and maintain legal frameworks, policies, and controls relevant to digital asset initiatives, including governance, disclosures, and risk-management processes
- Identify and manage legal and regulatory risks associated with digital asset activities, escalating issues as appropriate
- Support Board- and senior-management-level discussions on digital asset–related risks, opportunities, and regulatory posture
External & Internal Leadership
- Act as a trusted legal advisor to senior leadership on crypto and digital asset matters
- Coordinate and manage external counsel across multiple jurisdictions, as required
- Contribute to internal capability-building and knowledge development relating to digital assets and crypto regulation
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law; qualified to practise in Hong Kong or another common-law jurisdiction
- 8–12 years of post-qualification legal experience, with significant exposure to crypto, digital assets, fintech, or financial regulatory work
- Strong working knowledge of digital asset regulatory frameworks, including licensing, custody, payments, outsourcing, and AML/CFT considerations
- Proven ability to operate independently in a senior role, with sound judgement and comfort managing ambiguity
- Experience advising senior stakeholders and engaging regulators or supervisory authorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- High integrity, strong commercial judgement, and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset
- Hong Kong-based, with business travel across Asia and other jurisdictions as required
Preferred
- Prior experience advising or working within a crypto, digital asset, or Web3 environment
- Familiarity with SFC / MAS expectations or other financial regulatory regimes relevant to digital assets
- Exposure to cross-border regulatory strategy, including hub-and-spoke or multi-jurisdictional licensing models
- Experience supporting early-stage or fast-growing regulated initiatives

- Opportunity to play a key role in shaping and executing a digital assets strategy within a well-capitalised, regulated group
- Direct exposure to senior leadership and strategic decision-making
- High autonomy and ownership in a fast-evolving regulatory landscape
- Potential to build and lead a function as the business expands
