Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Technician to join the founding academic team at the University of Liverpool’s India Campus. In this exciting role, you will not only contribute to world class teaching and academic delivery but also play a vital part in shaping a cutting edge, learner-centric environment that mirrors the academic excellence of the Liverpool campus. The individual will be based in the India Campus, Bengaluru, in a new purpose-built facility.

Key responsibilities and duties:
· Ensures the operation of a safe working environment using good working practices in line with relevant legal requirements.
· Demonstrating of modules/practicals to students i.e. training of students.
· Assists in the completion of risk assessment forms by staff and students within the facility, providing instruction and advice on completion of forms in accordance with legal and local requirements as required; likewise, records attendance in facility, usage of equipment and undertakes such other monitoring as may be required.
· Oversees the general cleanliness, organisation and tidiness of the facility and disposal of hazardous wastes. Ensures contaminated apparatus is dealt with in a safe manner in accordance with proper procedure. Ensures redundant equipment or used consumables are disposed of safely and in accordance with sustainability policies.
· Organizes and supervises specialist technical facilities and the equipment within them.
·Assists in the installation of new equipment and preparation of safe operating guides, ensuring these are clearly displayed and accessible to all.
·Assists in the maintenance of adequate stock levels of apparatus and materials, where appropriate, with limited authority to procure consumable items.
·Ensures the safe, proper and effective use of equipment and facilities through the provision of advice to staff and students, the documentation of operating guidance, and the ad hoc or scheduled demonstration of equipment usage to individuals or groups of staff and students.
· Supports required outcomes from use of equipment and facilities, through consultation with and advice to staff about the application of technical equipment, methods and facilities for research, teaching and professional purposes.
·Occasionally uses initiative and problem-solving techniques to produce solutions for academic requirements such as the design and construction of experiments. Uses quantitative and qualitative analysis where necessary to determine or evaluate practice, helps with the interpretation of results.
· Limited liaison and networking with outside agencies, visitors, etc.
· Supervises students as required.
· Responsible for supporting designated practical/courses/labs.
· Provide benchtop technical support as required.
General:
· Undertakes other duties commensurate with the grade as required by the line manager.
Manual Handling
· The post involves bending, stretching and the manual handling of loads up to 15kg. A system to control the risks is in place.

Skills & Experience:
· Experience leading and assisting with the setup of biological practical classes within an educational institute/school
· Practical experiences in two or more laboratory skill disciplines (e.g. Pharmacology, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology)
· Experience in staff and student development/training
· Relevant practical experience of working in medical/biosciences/biological laboratories.
3x GCSEs at Grade C (4) or above (or 3 x functional skills qualifications level 2 or equivalent), including English Language, Mathematics, and Information Technology / Computer Studies, or the equivalent
· Or a minimum of 4 years of work experience in the same area of work
· Relevant biological degree (e.g. Biological Sciences, Pharmacology, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics)
· Demonstrate continuous professional development
· Associate teaching fellow accreditation
· Knowledge in one of the disciplines listed (e.g. Pharmacology, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics)
· Knowledge of laboratory health and safety (biological and chemical safety)
· Good working knowledge backed up with formal qualifications of MS Office (Word, Excel)
· Ability to travel (occasionally) to help with the deployment of equipment and support fieldwork
