The candidate will be responsible for the on-time delivery of all powertrain ECUs development and powertrain controls integration activities across all Bugatti Rimac programs.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • To manage internally and with external suppliers all powertrain electronic control units; that includes:
    • Engine ECU
    • Hybrid transmission control unit (TCU)
    • Traction electric inverters and motors (MCU)
    • Battery management system (BMS)
  • To lead the definition, calibration and industrialization activity of thermal management application software into main vehicle VCU
  • To lead the definition, calibration and industrialization activity of Powertrain hybrid strategy application software into main vehicle VCU
  • Ownership of control systems integration within the powertrain calibration team and definition of the main powertrain attributes and functions for each main subcomponent
  • Maintain and support de-bug activities for current and future thermal and electrified powertrains, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
  • Reference figure for powertrain controls for feasibility, functionality and resolution of technical issues for the main Powertrain ECUs; reference figure for the interaction of the ECUs with the main VCU (Vehicle control unit)
  • Engage with main external suppliers and manage costs and timings, and ensuring program milestones are met, including evaluation of RFQ responses to influence management decisions
  • Develop and ensure cross-functionality with other R&D departments to define hardware and software systems and achieving vehicle requirements
  • Lead the calibration and testing activity on MiL (Model in the loop), SiL (Software in the Loop) and support the calibration and testing activity on the HiL (Hardware in the loop), hybrid PWT rig and vehicle calibration and testing
  • Engage with software and hardware external and internal suppliers, ensuring high level software requirements are converted into detailed requirements and related verification tests
  • Engage with the product development process to understand the impact of design/engineering decisions
  • Evaluate competitor benchmark information to improve concept definition in early project phase
  • Establish regular design reviews with cross functional teams
  • Support Functional Safety and Cyber Security, Intellectual properties and patents within R&D team
  • Collaborative definition of methodology and release of standards related to durability and reliability with analysis team
  • Be a team player and share the knowledge throughout the whole powertrain team

Qualification & Experience:

  • Previous experience within an automotive OEM or automotive components supplier on powertrain virtual analysis and controls related topics
  • Engineering Degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent
  • Experience on vehicle energy management (VEM) approach, duty cycles definitions and CO2 emissions simulation
  • Experience on hybrid strategies for high performance hybrid powertrains
  • Experience on overall powertrain cooling simulation management
  • Experience on all relevant vehicle legislation and certification requirements for automotive application
  • Experience on Functional Safety and Cyber Security
  • Proven experience in tracking and planning of technical subjects and internal/external resources
  • In-depth vehicle powertrain knowledge and electrified components
  • Working across functional teams effectively to deliver viable problem resolution
  • Expert user of Matlab/Simulink and GTSuite environment
